Fox is running a peculiar hypothetical viral scenario running in conjunction with The Day the Earth Stood Still over at EarthVitalList.com asking fans “what you would hypothetically save if the earth was being demolished.” I say this is peculiar because while I know what they are looking for (condoms, cyanide, weapons, rainbows, rubber plants, etc.)
my first thought is, “I would save my own ass.”
I mean, if the Earth is being demolished am I not screwed? If I save my iPhone who am I going to call? If I save rubber plants they are going to be a bitch to carry. My best bet is to look at this as a scenario much like Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road” and assume the world is going to be scorched, I somehow survived and there are cannibals running around that want to eat me. In “The Road” the man and his boy have very little in terms of weapons to combat against the crazies and since the Earth Vital List scenario seems to be assuming I can save whatever I want I would say a shopping cart full of bullets and a couple of guns would suffice. I am not a violent person, but I am assuming in this scenario it isn’t going to be rainbows and roses (unless someone saves them) and a serious amount of protection will be needed.
I could say I would save my dog, but he rolls with me wherever I go so I already know he’s cool. My family lives about 45 minutes south of me and the other half lives about 6 hours east of me so I will most likely head south and then head east – “Road” stylee. So, if you see some guy with a shopping cart full of bullets packing an uzi and walking east across the state of Washington with his mom, sister and Springer Spaniel that’s me… Oh, and don’t even think about taking our shit because I ain’t afraid to use my weapons, I’m like a Republican the day after Obama got elected.
