Box-Office Oracle: Sep. 19 – Sep. 21, 2008

#1 movie predicted correctly: 0 Weeks in a Row
I feel like I’m doomed no matter which way I go. None of these movies should win. The weekend should make around 50 cents total. Total nightmare.

Plus, they all have fatal flaws. The flaw for this one is the trailer. It looks like every other neighbor suspense movie ever. Sad days.

Estimate: $12.0 million
Flaw: Dane Cook. 2nd flaw: Terrible trailer. And they aren’t screening it. So what poor fools are headed out to see this? It’s a tragedy I tell ya, a tragedy.
Estimate: $11.3 million
I’m only calling for a 47% drop here. It’s like being the prettiest ugly person.
Estimate: $10.2 million
Tyler Perry movies fall off the map once the second weekend comes around. You can’t fight a good trend.
Estimate: $8.2 million
5. Igor
Flaw: animated film as the kids are back in school. Plus it doesn’t have a marketing budget. Other than that it’s totally set up for success. Not to mention the AP already reviewed it and said it gives hunchbacks a bad name. Ouch!
Estimate: $8.1 million
A 56% drop. Not because it’s a trend – but because there can’t be any enthusiasm left for this film.
Estimate: $7.1 million
I would actually give this film a B+. I really liked it. But of course it has a flaw. 1400 theaters? C’mon. They aren’t even trying anymore.
Estimate: $5.6 million
At least this weekend has a nice mix of dollars. Titles aren’t bunching up on the spreadsheet. I appreciate that. The bright side to this monstrosity.
Estimate: $5.0 million
Fatal flaw: it has been out a month. On a random note I saw The Duchess on Tuesday. I really liked it – but no one I was with did. So I could be an anomaly.
Estimate: $2.8 million
The last weekend for The Dark Knight in the top ten. It’s getting so close to that billion dollar number. $33m away. C’mon Big D!
Estimate: $2.3 million
