Top Ten Best Movies Midway Through 2008

It’s nice to find real enjoyment in a romantic comedy once again and Definitely, Maybe is a very good diversion with a rather high concept at its core considering the genre it’s in. Abigail Breslin acts with the talent that I would say makes her seem like a young Julie Delpy and Ryan Reynolds proves he can take his humor and translate it into a more adult film not focused on fart jokes.

This is a beautiful film that I could possibly say is the antithesis of Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth. Whereas Del Toro’s Pan is the dark, this is the light as both films use something of a fairy tale as its plotline and couple it with beautiful imagery, turning in films that are as much a work of art as they are motion pictures.

After watching the trailer it didn’t surprise me one bit that The Edge of Heaven was a tremendous film. Focusing on a variety of characters in director Fatih Akin’s Turkey based film you can never really tell exactly who is at the center of the story and you don’t really care as you get so caught up in the stories of those you are watching as they appear to be on a collision course for one another, yet they never quite manage to make it… at least not in the literal sense.

Action, comedy, drama and a dwarf, to say In Bruges is not packed to the gills with goodness would be a disastrous lie. This is a fabulous film that will have you twisting and turning as the plot unfolds and comes to its crowning moment.
