Judd Apatow Presents: Edgar Wright Directing Michael Cera in ‘Life’

The Hollywood Reporter presents this story as a Michael Cera casting announcement, when in fact the bigger and more interesting news is that he will be directed by Edgar Wright, of Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead fame. Of course we already knew Wright was on board this project, but come on, wouldn’t you rather watch another Edgar Wright film than another Judd Apatow production?

This new flick is called Scott Pilgrim’s Little Life and tells the story of a young slacker (Cera) who meets the woman of his dreams but finds that he can only win her heart by battling and defeating her seven evil ex-boyfriends. The only bad thing about the whole mess is that Wright didn’t co-write the script with Simon Pegg. Instead he teamed with Michael Bacall to adapt the graphic novel “Scott Pilgrim Volume 1: Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Life,” written by Bryan Lee O’Malley. At least he had a hand in it, that’s all that counts.

Universal is releasing the adventure romance story. The studio is eyeing a fall start, which means we should expect this one in 2009.

Apparently Wright and Cera hit it off after doing the mock interview that confused so many online during the promotion of Superbad. Yes folks, this was fake. Wright is the interviewer. It’s a great video nonetheless, and any reason to post it again is reason enough.
