There was a reason I debated back and forth as to whether or not I should add the ability to comment on articles, or to even have a forum on the site. There are several reasons, but the #1 reason reared its ugly head yet again yesterday and I couldn’t help but bring it to light.
After looking at the latest top ten article on the site “Top Ten Movie Badasses” first time commenter “jack_byrnes86” made the following comment:
This list is a joke. Whoever came up with this list is a total idiot. It has Jason Bourne listed as a Badass, yet it does not include the most Badass character of all time: John J. Rambo.
For the majority of RopeofSilicon users I have faith you realize why comments like this make me sad. Yes, they actually bring me pain. This is what it means to comment on the Internet. When people aren’t typing “first” into comment boxes they resort to simple putdowns without any substance or even any reason for being.
I would like to thank “jack_byrnes86” for allowing me the opportunity to bring this up. I would also like to thank the rest of you for having the common sense to comment only when you have something to add, or to just enjoy the content of the site without resorting to elementary school tactics.
