Wachowski’s Corner the Market on Rain

Pochi, the bubble tea shop I frequent here in Seattle (get the strawberry/banana smoothie with lychee), cornered the market on the South Korean popstar Rain who is a mega hit in his native land and it seems Matrix creators Larry and Andy Wachowski are going to harness that talent and make him a movie star as he is set to play the lead in Ninja Assassin of which the brothers will produce.

This won’t be Rain’s first film role as he was in Park Chan-wook’s I’m a Cyborg, but That’s OK and even has a supporting role in Speed Racer, which comes out later this year. You also are going to hear his voice on the soundtrack for the upcoming Kung Fu Panda as he is coming up with his own version of “Kungfu Fighting”.

The most annoying part of the Variety article announcing the news is that it almost mentions what Ninja Assassin is all about by saying that the press conference “provided few details about the film” only to go on to give us NO details. Uh, thanks.

One thing we do know is that it looks like V for Vendetta helmer James McTeigue is likely to direct.
