Did Yah Have High Hopes for the New ‘Conan’?

I think we all knew that a new Conan the Barbarian film would be pretty much awful and now Bloody-Disgusting pretty much confirms it as they have received word that Rob Zombie is in talks with Lionsgate and Nu Image to direct the feature. Yup, the man that was quoted saying he would never do a remake and then made the awful Halloween is set to remake another film. Oh, what? Wait, I think they are calling it a “reboot” now, which means it isn’t a remake, but a restart?

Arnold Schwarzenegger starred as the muscled warrior back in 1982 and then again in 1984. The story tells the tale of child sold into slavery who grows into a man who seeks revenge against the warlord who massacred his tribe.

The last we heard about the film, which is based on the Robert E. Howard-created character Conan the Barbarian was that it would be written by the team of Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer. Plans were to begin filming this year, but that all depended on the writers’ strike. Lionsgate has since made a side deal with the WGA, so if they wanted to get work done on the script and get the film into production they very easily could. The question remains, “Should they?” My answer is no, at least not with hack helmer Rob Zombie at the helm.

As far as the film goes the only word on a plot was a plan to remain closer to the source material than previous incarnations.
