Ain’t It Cool News is reporting that Brett Ratner is most likely going to be replacing Mark Romanek as director on the remake of The Wolf Man, a move that is not going to go over well in the online world. If you tour any one of the fanboy centric movie news sites you will see that Ratner is a realtively loathed director and I am sure folks will point at any myriad of reasons for their feelings. So, essentially what Universal is doing with their monster remake is turning it from one that many were anxious to see into something they will go into prepared to hate.
Harry at AICN says, “Brett Ratner makes watchable films.” Not a ringing endorsement considering his headline reads, “Universal – If You Let Ratner Direct ‘The Wolf Man’ You’ll Deserve the Turd You’ll End Up Releasing On Screen!”
Of course this is all rumor until “officially” announced, but I think we can pretty much say it will be so as CHUD has also confirmed the details through their sources and Jeremy Smith gets a little more acidic than even Knowles saying, “But when Ratner starts boasting how The Wolf Man was always his favorite classic monster, and how he’s thrilled beyond belief to be working with the great Rick Baker on a werewolf movie… I will find that motherfucker, and I will drag his ass right into the moors.”
This is the type of hatred folks have for Ratner, Universal knows this and it is surprising they would decide on Ratner considering The Wolf Man is a film they will want the Internet revolution behind.
