A short while ago we learned via Moviehole.net that Ryan Gosling’s name was rumored to be at the top of the list to play a young Jack Ryan based on the character created by Tom Clancy and played in the past by Alec Baldwin in Hunt for Red October, Harrison Ford in Patriot Games and most recently by Ben Affleck in Sum of All Fears in a failed attempt to restart the franchise with a younger face.
Well, more news has surfaced from the same source as Moviehole is now reporting that The Constant Gardener director Fernando Meirelles is rumored to be the front-runner to direct a new film called By Any Means Necessary. On top of that apparently the Brazilian website Cinema em Cena contacted Meirelles and he confirmed he is considering the idea of directing the film but is currently committed to Blindness and not sure if the film will fit his schedule.
If you ask me Meirelles is a good choice while Gosling is a wrong choice. I just can’t see Gosling playing any kind of an action hero, even if it is a more cerebral one like Jack Ryan. However, the idea of a Jack Ryan film taking on the same tone as The Constant Gardner does sound appealing.
