As it happens every year the 2008 Razzie Award nominations have been announced, at least to the point where they issued a press release as opposed to actually previewing the nominations, which I think you actually have to join their site to vote. Yeah, because I need to pay someone in order to tell them what films are bad. Oh, what, Norbit was bad? Good on yah, didn’t see that one coming.
The insanely overrated and tired end of year awards are “handed” out to what are considered the worst films of each year. The site determines this by nominating the most obvious choices such as Lindsay Lohan’s I Know Who Killed Me (9 nominations), Eddie Murphy’s Norbit and the awful Adam Sandler flick I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.
I know, it is like they have some special “Bad Movie Radar”! I never would have thought of those three movies.
Strangely enough such major hits as Bratz and Daddy Day Camp also made the list, which leads me to believe these folks must really be on the ball.
This is why I actually like “Worst Of” lists from critics, because they don’t see shit movies like those (at least the folks that can help it don’t). “Worst Of” lists shouldn’t be obvious, they should be interesting. The Razzies were interesting when they were first created, who would have thought any one would pay attention beyond that first year?
Of course, being the idiot I am, by simply posting this article I keep the dream of the Golden Raspberry alive, but who am I to stop progress? They obviously have something impressive working over there.
For the full press release go here. As for a complete list of nominees I didn’t find one.
