Back when we first learned of Cirque du Freak in November 2007 as John C. Reilly was cast in the lead role I didn’t quite know what to make of the film, and I am still not sure if I have a grip on it. Now we learn the Salma Hayek plans on playing a bearded lady in the film, marking it as her first acting role since her maternity leave.
The pic will be directing by American Pie helmer Paul Weitz and is based on the bestselling 12-book children’s series by Darren Shan. Here’s the story: Reilly will play a vampire who drafts a 14-year-old to serve as his assistant. The youth is turned into a half-vampire and becomes the catalyst in a battle between vampires and the rival Vampanese. Hayek will play Madame Truska, the bearded lady.
What is a Vampanese? Hell if I know. I did a quick Google and Wiki search and came up empty and didn’t want to spend much time searching.
As for Cirque du Freak, it is set to go into production begins next month so I am sure this isn’t the last bit of casting we are going to be hearing over the next few weeks.
