Box-Office Wrap-Up: Nov. 30 – Dec. 2, 2007

It’s hard out there for a gangster, but not for an Oracle. Enchanted delivered as per expected and all is right with the world.
#1 movie predicted correctly: Three Week In A Row
Enchanted has raked in $70m which means that Disney is greenlighting every modern day fake fairy tale movie it can get its hands on. If you’ve got that script laying around it might be time to make a call.
Result: 17.0 million (My rank: #1, $1.3m off)
I had this dialed in, the 53% drop was expected I was just a bit too bullish on Beowulf. That one sank like a stone. This Christmas has already made around $5m in profit and continues to shine. Good job guys!
Result: 8.4 million (My rank: #3, $.1m off)
$1.5m worth of variance may not seem like a big deal but in this case it’s like 25% too high. No good, back to the drawing board and such.
Result: 7.8 million (My rank: #2, $1.5m off)
It didn’t have any marketing dollars behind it, even as the only wide new release. When that happens it’s 4th place city which is exactly what went down.
Result: 6.0 million (My rank: #4, $1m off)
Wow, so far so good, this 56% drop-off for Hitman means that most everyone hated it. This was the correct reaction – it was one awful film.
Result: 5.8 million (My rank: #5, $0.5m off)
At this level none of these films made any money so it gets rough from here on out. I’m not going to feel bad about being $.1m off. No way, no how.
Result: 5.5 million (My rank: #7, $.1m off)
I’m a little freaked out it only bled 45%… my only thought is that people like seeing creepy Rhys Meyers sing like a girl. On the other hand his singing was the only decent part.
Result: 5.1 million (My rank: #9, $.3m off)
It still needs to make a bunch more money to have some Oscar winning cred. Oscar likes nominating the tiny dollars but they rarely reward them with the statue too.
Result: 4.5 million (My rank: #8, $0.6m off)
I was way too low on it last weekend and way too high this weekend. I’d love to lash out at this film but I can’t. It’s just a normal average film that will soon be forgotten.
Result: 4.4 million (My rank: #6, $1.7m off)
I had The Mist taking this slot and I was a grand total of $33,00 off. That’s like what, 4000 people? Whoever you four thousand people are, I’m making a list. Watch out for me.
Result: 4.2 million (My rank: Not Ranked)
