A couple of days ago The Hollywood Reporter posted an article talking about the tough time Paramoun is going to have pubbing Sweeney Todd considering the audiences it appeals to are so vastly different.
DreamWorks marketing guru Terry Press told THR, “This has many niche audiences that need to be dealt with, and they don’t really cross… There are ‘Sweeney Todd’ freaks, there’s a sophisticated theatergoer crowd, there are the Tim Burton fans, and there are the young girls who love Johnny Depp. It’s like threading many needles.”
Well, I think he can toss out “young” girls since the film is rumored to be an absolute bloodbath and has already earned an R-rating for graphic bloody violence.
There is another issue at hand though, even though it has earned its rating already the film isn’t done yet and hasn’t been screened for critics. Burton told THR he hopes to have the film completed in about two weeks. The article goes pretty indepth and is worth the read if you have the chance.
