‘Friday the 13th’ Remake Has a Director

Marcus Nispel made an impressive splash on the scene with the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but his shitty follow-up feature Pathfinder didn’t have the same kind of luck. Luckily for Nispel horror remakes are the thing to do nowadays as he has entered final negotiations to direct a remake of Friday the 13th for New Line and Paramount/MTV.

As for the story, I am not sure how close they are going to stick to the original considering Jason didn’t pop up until the end of the movie and didn’t even wear his iconic hockey mask until the third film. Word is the new film will focus squarly on Jason, and according to The Hollywood Reporter he will wear the mask and kill, yet the film will keep the famous setting of Crystal Lake. No word on whether his mother will be involved or not.

The script was penned by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift and the film is expected to get underway this winter.

I am interested to see how this all pans out, but if Nispel tries to just go gross it isn’t going to work. There was something more than gore that made the original so good and I hope they have something unique in mind.
