Box-Office Wrap-Up: Oct. 26 – Oct. 28

We’re back on track at Oracle industries and it’s only a matter of time before some bigshot studio rep swoops in and hires me for six figures.
#1 movie predicted correctly: Two Weeks In A Row
It did around $500 less per theater than Saw III and it fell pretty hard from that $14m Friday night. If you add in that 17% over on Rotten Tomatoes the picture becomes clear… this movie probably sucks.
Result: $32.1 million (My rank: #1, $2.5m off)
They’ve got to be thrilled with this number given Dan in Real Life is a drama masked in comedy clothing. Has the Dane Cook curse been snapped?
Result: $12.0 million (My rank: #2, $3.3m off)
Man, these are good predictions here. 30 Days of Night sits at $27m right now – not bad for a bit of vampire makeup and some fake blood. I really do think me and B-Luv need to start making movies. Only we’d call them “moooobies.”
Result: $6.7 million (My rank: #3, $.3m off)
I don’t know if I’ve ever put this in the right spot. Doesn’t it seem like it’s been out around six years? I think it’s going to hit $100m but I wonder what that means for The Rock. Is he an action star? Comedy? Family comedy? What does he want to be? I’d like him to be the next Stallone, but he might end up as the next Eddie Murphy.
Result: $6.2 million (My rank: #5, $.4m off)
Okay, so I was off on both of them by under half a million. So I’m still calling this edition solid. As for Tyler Perry – his one weakness seems to be the international dollar. As in no one outside of America cares about him.
Result: $5.7 million (My rank: #4, $.4m off)
Another half million off. I’m getting close to perfection. Clayton had another solid week, only a 25% drop, so Clooney and Company should be satisfied that they made a strong word-of-mouth flick. That bodes well for the DVD. And the criterion edition too.
Result: $5.0 million (My rank: #6, $.5m off)
A million light is substantial given how little this film made. If it only dropped 29% it can’t be that bad, can it? This is where skipping a week of screenings hurts my ability to entertain and delight you.
Result: $3.9 million (My rank: #9, $1.0m off)
Of course I didn’t rank it. I was hoping it would never be mentioned again. Now we’re all a little bit sadder. Why did it do so well? Probably something to do with it being the only true comedy on the board. Some people just wanted a mindless laugh it seems.
Result: $3.45 million (My rank: Not Ranked)
I like to think that somewhere out there is a guy who skipped this due to my review. I’ve got to hold on to my dreams, don’t I?
Result: $3.40 million (My rank: #8, $.5m off)
What’s amazing is the fact that this came out forever ago. And it’s still making monies. Love it or hate it – Timmy Burton has officially earned my respect with this little project. Now if only they’d re-release James and the Giant Peach. That was my joint.
Result: $3.3 million (My rank: #10, $.6m off)
