Variety is reporting that the role of Scotty in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek has been filled by none other than Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz star Simon Pegg.
Pegg joins the recently announced Eric Bana who will play the villain Nero, Anton Yelchin as Chekov, Zachary Quinto as young Spock, Zoe Saldana as Uhura and Leonard Nimoy as old Spock in the latest bigscreen incarnation of the classic TV series.
Plot details are still being kept underwraps, but a time travel story is being rumored. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci penned the script and production is expected to begin in November for a Christmas Day 2008 release.
As of now the only other high profile roles left to be cast are those of Captain Kirk and Dr. McCoy. Rumor has it right now that Chris Pine is the frontrunner for the Kirk role but scheduling woes are holding up the casting.
