Box-Office Oracle: Oct. 12 – Oct. 14

#1 movie predicted correctly: Zero weeks in a row
This is the craziest box office week I’ve seen in.. well, forever. Three movies within a million of each other? Now, in fairness it most likely won’t end up that way. I’m taking Clooney over Joaquin, Wahlberg, and Tyler Perry because he’s a bigger deal than all three. Combined.
Estimate: $13.9 million
This is not a very good movie. But the trailers make it look good. Thus, it will cut into Clooney’s cash.
Estimate: $13.7 million
Why indeed? I’m not sure what to make of Tyler Perry. He clearly doesn’t need critics, but why then should I care about him? I never see his movies, and I’m not going to pay on the off chance it will be horrible. So we’re at an uneasy impasse.
Estimate: $13.1 million
Hey, here’s the bright side! No way in hell The Game Plan wins this weekend. Whew, I feel so much better already.
Estimate: $10.8 million
Another not very good movie, but not nearly as bad as We Own the Night. It’s just a tad bit melodramatic for my tastes. B-Luv liked it though. So if you like him better than me you should get in line for a ticket right frickin’ now.
Estimate: $9.8 million
What’s heartbreaking is that these brothers of Farrelly have been demoted back to around C list. I wouldn’t want to be the guy rounding up financing for their next project. But I would like to be their agent, because he’s probably already rich. Hopefully those two guys aren’t the same guy or I’ll end up really confused as to what I want to be.
Estimate: $6.7 million
You will be missed Kingdom, you deserved far better than this cruel world had to offer you.
Estimate: $5.8 million
It’s gaining a whole mess of theaters this weekend. Oddly enough that helps with the bottom line. I think it has something to do with multiplication.
Estimate: $3.4 million
They should have screened this one. We’ve seen so many awful horrors that I bet this would have looked tasty by comparison.
Estimate: $2.3 million
1000 theaters… no marketing… ah yes, it’s the number ten slot special.
Estimate: $2.2 million
