When we interviewed Joss Whedon at Comic Con and said to him, “So give me hope for a Serenity II,” to which he replied, “Hope for it probably rests with this DVD,” the Browncoats went crazy. Guess what though, it may have worked!
News out of an interview with Serenity and “Firefly” star Alan Tudyk at Moviehole tells us that the DVD sales of the latest Collector’s Edition DVD were so good the sequel may stand a better chance than anyone may have thought.
Tudyk tells the site, “They had to put [the new DVD] out because they’ve been selling out of the other one and so Universal’s like ‘So, let’s do another one’. And now… there’s now a chance there’s going to be another movie.”
If you haven’t seen Serenity yet then you probably aren’t reading this article, but I will say that there is a spoiler to come. Even though we all know Wash doesn’t make it out of the film Tudyk goes on to say, “Everybody in the Firefly crew – and that includes the ones who died in the movie – are excited about the prospect of doing another.”
Perhaps all that DVD buying you folks have been doing persuaded the Uni brass to move forward, and Tudyk says even if it was straight-to-DVD he wouldn’t care. For the complete interview click here.
