In 2005 a fire at a warehouse destroyed the entire “Wallace and Gromit” history, all but the sets and props from Aardman’s last film Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. Luckily for us, fires can’t hold them down as Variety reports Aardman Animation’s clay man and dog duo return to the smallscreen for their next escapade.
Yeah, it won’t be a feature film, but Nick Park’s “Trouble at’ Mill” starts production at Aardman’s base in Bristol, southwest England, in January and will air on BBC1 at Christmas in 2008.
The pic will run 30 minutes and will hopefully be stepping stone to a first feature with Sony Pictures as the studio signed an exclusive, three-year, first-look deal with Sony in April. That deal followed the dissolution of Aardman’s deal with DreamWorks in January.
You can check out some early art for the film here as well as a short interview with Park right here.
Curse of the Were-Rabbit won the 2005 animation Oscar.
