I still have not even come close to having the time to finish reading “Watchmen”, but I know I will get it done before Zack Snyder’s feature film adaptation hits the big screen in 2009. Filming on the project is currently underway in Canada and for anyone that saw Snyder’s little video introduction could tell that the undertaking was already hitting him pretty hard. He looked tired and it seemed to me that they were still trying to flesh out the script. It appears that last little bit may indeed be true as IESB has a little writer scoopage for us.
Apparently Transformers scripters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have come on to do a rewrite of Alex Tse’s original script and the site reports that this wasn’t just a polish, but a complete rewrite saying, “I don’t know how many elements of Alex Tse’s script remains in the current shooting draft but we have been told that the script is quite different from the former.”
To go on top of that the site reports that Snyder also changed Orci and Kurtzman’s version as well, which is no surprise since any script is going to get changed by the director over the course of making a film.
However, based on what I have read of the book and what I have heard, this is a massive undertaking and one that many don’t feel can necessarily be pulled off regardless of who is telling the story. I hope it turns out good, because another hit from Snyder would be a lot of fun.
