New ‘Cloverfield/1-18-08’ Pic Surfaces

SlashFilm points out that a new image has just been added to the 1-18-08/Cloverfield official site showing a rather excited chef with his latest dish and if you hold down your mouse button and wiggle enough you can flip the image over and see the recipe written in Japanese.

Luckily for us non-Japanese reading folks a fella over at Unfiction translated the recipe, it reads as follows:

Everybody, thank you for viewing! I’ll introduce this week’s delicious recipe. Please make sure to keep this one cold!

  • Skinless chicken breast – 2, cut in halves
  • Sōmen noodles – 10 oz.
  • Watercress – 1/2 cup cut into small strips
  • Turnip – 1/2 cup, thinly sliced
  • Shiitake Mushrooms – 1/2 cup
  • Chicken stock – 1/3 cup
  • Sake – 2 tbsp.
  • Sugar – 1/2 tsp.
  • Deep-sea crab – one

In a small saucepan, stir together 1/3 cup water, chicken stock, sake, and sugar. Chill it until it becomes cold. Grill the chicken breast on both sides for about 8 minutes, and then chill. Boil the noodles for about 3 minutes, and then run under cold water until chilled. Mix the watercress, turnips, and mushrooms into the sōmen. Slice the chicken thinly and arrange on top of the sōmen mix. Just before you serve, put the crab in the sauce and pour over the noodles generously.

Notice how it says “Deep-sea crab” at the end there. Well, the fans of the Internet world are so into this flick they point out that over on Slusho.jp (another viral site for the film) there has always been the little fella pictured to the right in the history section.

In all honesty, if all of these things are related to the movie and actually feature any kind of significance to the story I will be blown away. Everything seems way too random. At least it is keeping the online folks busy eh?
