Yet another rumor has surfaced out of IESB in regards to the new Star Trek venture and this time it is in terms of the bad guy… Well, that and a mess load of story details.
First for the bad guy stuff, we already heard that the bad fellas in the movie are the Romulans, so that has been established, but who is going to lead these villains? Well, if IESB’s rumor is correct the man is Karl Urban, a.k.a. Bourne Supremacy baddie Kirill. Urban is currently filming Black Water Transit for Tony Kaye and thanks to director John McTiernan getting sentenced to four months in jail or lying to FBI agents investigating disgraced detective Anthony Pellicano I would say his next venture, Run, is on hold for a bit opening up some end of year time to film some Trek.
Now, for the spoilerish stuff, but I should tell you, most of this stuff is likely to be revealed in the trailers since it is really just story details. We still don’t know how it will all turn out.
If you have been paying attention to articles around the Net you already know that this is a time travel story. All story rumors have pointed in that direction and it sounds like it is solid intel just like we have heard the Romulans referred to several times leading us to believe that is also solid. However, we are getting a slightly different version of what happens in the past than we previously did.
In AICN‘s story the goal was to kill captain James T. Kirk thus altering the entire world of Star Trek as we know it since everything we have seen so far, regardless of “Trek” franchise, would therefore change due to Kirk’s absence. Ironically enough the death of Kirk would give Paramount a chance to completely reboot the franchise since the previous stories with Kirk never happened and we can now experience nothing but new “Trek” voyages with the original crew from this point forward; minus Kirk, of course, whom I would only assume sacrifices himself to save the world.
Now, IESB is saying that the Romulans don’t want to just kill Kirk, they want to destroy all of Earth, which I am sure would wipe out Kirk and the boys and girls of the Enterprise as well assuming they were chillin’ at a cantina when the end of the world came about.
The action happens as old Spock (Leonard Nimoy) heads back in time and works with young Spock (Zachary Quinto) to solve the problem. IESB reports these two are actually the stars of the film.
Whew! I hope I have all those details right.
The one thing no one seems to know is how old Spock finds out about the killer plot, and the IESB provide a few questions of their own, get the full article here.
