Smoker’s Get MPAA Amended!

I am not sure how many of you read my rant on sex, violence and smoking in movies, but a nice little birdie came in with the latest MPAA News Bulletin, the one the Smoke Free Movie pansies wanted me to forward on to them because the MPAA wouldn’t give it to them personally. Since I am not in the habit of giving candy to children whose parents want them to be sugar free I didn’t comply, but I can forward on some good news to those folks as the latest bulletin just came in.

Aside from today’s new ratings there was an amended rating reason I thought I would share for the upcoming animated film Bee Movie.

Bee Movie was originally saddled with a PG rating for mild suggestive humor, and a brief depiction of smoking. Ahh, that little word “smoking” made it into yet another rating, but wait! Wait I said! An amended rating reason has come in. Let me check… Yup, here yah go…

Bee Movie – Rated PG for mild suggestive humor.

Whenever a rating gets amended or changed in any way the MPAA also offers up their reasoning. A lot of the time it will say something like how the new rating applies to an edited version of the previously rated version. However, in this case, it doesn’t look like the movie has been edited at all, which leads me to believe that whatever “brief depiction of smoking” was seen in the movie is still seen in the movie. This couldn’t make me any happier. While I don’t always agree with what the MPAA is doing, I think this is an instance to place in the win column.
