Box-Office Mojo has created their page for Transformers 2 and with it they include a release date mention of June 26, 2009. This news comes on the heels of a mention in the Los Angeles Times stating that even if producer/director Steven Spielberg leaves DreamWorks, he and director Michael Bay have signed on to make Transformers 2, scheduled to hit theaters in the summer of 2009.
There is no confirmation that Michael Bay will be back to direct, but one can only assume. Bay’s rumored slate is said to include a Prince of Persia videogame adaptation as well as 2012: The War for Souls, an adapation of Whitley Strieber’s upcoming novel following an academic researcher who opens a portal into a parallel universe and makes contact with his double in order to stop an apocalypse foreseen by the ancient Mayans.
Outside of 20th Century Fox’s Ice Age III releasing on July 1, 2009, Transformers 2 is the only other film currently set for release during the July 4th holiday that year.
