Bateman to ‘Play’ with Pitt and Norton

There is some kind of bond between the Carnahan brothers and Jason Bateman. Bateman had a small part in director Joe Carnahan‘s Smokin’ Aces, then went on to star in Matthew Michael Carnahan‘s The Kingdom and is now set to star in another Matt Caranahan penned feature as he joins Brad Pitt and Ed Norton in State of Play for director Kevin Macdonald and Universal Pictures.

Play was penned by Carnahan with rewrites done by Tony Gilroy. The film is based on the BBC miniseries of the same name and revolves around a newspaper’s investigation of the murder of a girlfriend of a fast-rising congressman, played by Norton. Pitt plays the former campaign manager of the pol who spearheads the paper’s investigation, and Bateman will play one of the key reporters chasing the story.

As if this wasn’t enough for the Bateman/Carnahan combo, Jason is set to star in Remarkable Fellows which he pitched to Universal and will be written and directed by Joe Carnahan.

State of Play is on track for a November start.
