Once again Devin at CHUD brings something very interesting to the surface as I found this bit of news over there concerning Alfonso Cuarón, writer Naomi Klein and Cuaron’s brother Jonás, to name the more prominent players.
Klein has written a new book called “Shock Doctrine,” a book that is self described as a source that explodes the myth that the global free market triumphed democratically. Exposing the thinking, the money trail and the puppet strings behind the world-changing crises and wars of the last four decades, “The Shock Doctrine” is the gripping story of how America’s “free market†policies have come to dominate the world– through the exploitation of disaster-shocked people and countries.
As described on her site, once Klein finished the book she “sent it to Alfonso Cuarón because I adore his films and felt that the future he created for Children of Men was very close to the present I was seeing in disaster zones. I was hoping he would send me a quote for the book jacket and instead he pulled together this amazing team of artists — including Jonás Cuarón who directed and edited — to make ‘The Shock Doctrine’ short film. It was one of those blessed projects where everything felt fated.”
Quite possibly the coolest thing about this, aside from the just over 6-minute short itself, is that it not only debuted at the Toronto Film Festival, but you can also watch it online. The YouTube version is just below, and you can watch it in QuickTime right here.
If after watching this doesn’t get you interested in reading it, then get back to Fox News and tell me the state of things as you see it.
The book hits shelves on September 18, you can buy a copy right here. I am just going to throw this to the wind and hope I get sent one… Anyone listening?
