‘Doom’ Director Tackles ‘Street Fighter’

Tell me how directing Doom, Cradle 2 the Grave and Exit Wounds makes you what Variety is calling Andrzej Bartkowiak, and that would be an “action specialist”. Did they not see Doom? Oh wait, when they list his credits they don’t even mention Doom, but they do give the Jet Li actioner Romeo Must Die first mention, a movie that was neither good or special in terms of action. Now it seem Bartkowiak will use his “talent” once again to direct a feature film adaptation of the Capcom videogame “Street Fighter”.

This is the second time the game has been adapted for the screen with the Jean-Claude Van Damme 1994 starrer being the first incarnation and it seems Fox is taking this one just about as seriously as Universal did with the first one.

The script was penned by Justin Marks who is also working on such scripts as “Voltron” and “He Man”. Considering Marks’ filmography doesn’t include anything of note his involvement doesn’t make this news any more enticing.

Marks was announced as the writer back in October 2006. Since then LatinoReview mentioned there were rumors Jessica Biel was going to land the lead role.

Plans are to release the film in 2008, which marks the game’s 20th anniversary.
