I can’t imagine a world where Mike Myers’ new film The Love Guru will actually be any good, but Lord knows they are trying their hardest to get as many names in it as possible as Ben Kingsley, Meagan Good and John Oliver join already cast Justin Timberlake and Jessica Alba.
In the film Myers will play Pitka, an American who was left at the gates of an ashram in India as a child and raised by gurus. After moving back to the U.S., he attempts to settle a rift between a hockey player (Malco) and his wife, who begins scoring with the star player of a rival team. Alba plays the hockey team owner and Troyer the team coach. Pitka’s job is to check that illicit romance and reunite the couple so the star player can lead his team to the championship.
Kingsley joins the cast as Guru Tugginmypudha, the ashram leader who teachesPitka how to love himself and how to wear a chastity belt.
Good plays Prudence, the woman who leaves Toronto Maple Leafs player Darren Roanoke (Romany Malco) for his French-Canadian hockey nemesis, Jacques Grande (Timberlake).
Oliver plays manager Dick Pants, whose goal is to get the Love Guru on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” to settle a rivalry between his client and Deepak Chopra.
Alba plays the Maple Leafs manager, who enlists the Love Guru’s services to restore Roanoke’s mojo after Prudence betrays him. Verne Troyer plays the team coach.
The film begins shooting Friday in Toronto. It’s scheduled to hit theaters June 20.
