Haggis Talks ‘Bond 22’ Story

Back in July Daniel Craig was quoted saying that the new James Bond 22 will mark a return to the comedy that Roger Moore brought to the franchise in the Seventies. Basically this news was received by most of the online reporting community with a resounding, “NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!”

Well, one of Bond 22‘s co-writers Paul Haggis has echoed our sentiments to CHUD saying, “No,” when asked if the next Bond would be a little jokier and more in line with the campy entries of the ’80s – were true. Now a resounding, “WHEW!” can be heard around the pipeline.

The site also goes on to say that as far as Paul Haggis is concerned, the next Bond film will be completely in line with the last one, tonally.

More news came out of Haggis’ mouth while promoting his new film In the Valley of Elah while talking to ComingSoon.net where he was asked how his version of James Bond is different than the others.

My Bond is an actual assassin; when he kills someone, he kills them with a knife, they’re bloody and he pays a price. He denies that he pays a price, but he does. When he sees a woman who witnesses something horrific, and he sees her taking a shower, he doesn’t just go in there and f*ck her, like the old Bond would have done. He sits there with her, and she says, ‘I can’t get this blood from my fingernails.’ So he helps her get the blood from her fingernails; that’s what he does, that’s my Bond. So it’s a different guy; it’s a guy who’s much more like these guys, these heroes (in ‘Valley of Elah’).”

For those wondering when exactly the next film will pick up considering Bond tradition is to start a brand new story without much recollection if any to the previous installment, Haggis said, “It picks up 2 minutes after the last one, and it’s going to be fun.”

I really can’t wait for this film, and my expectations couldn’t be any higher.
