I was a moderate fan of Open Water when it was first released in theaters. I saw it in a dingy small Seattle theater when it was screened and it added a little to the overall effect so I can see why writer-director Chris Kentis and producer Laura Lau are getting another film opportunity.
Paramount Vantage has brought on the duo to tell the story of a young woman who is arrested for a crime she didn’t commit and plunged into a state of confusion and psychological terror as she defends herself.
The thriller is not yet titled and is eyeing an early 2008 production start.
The Variety article also mentions the adapatation of “In Harm’s Way” over at Warner Bros. of which it was announced in December 2006 that Kentis would direct. The film is to be titled Indianapolis and focuses on the story of the WWII sinking of the USS Indianapolis, which left a crew of 900 floating in shark-infested waters for five days. There is still no release or production start for Indianapolis however.
