Will Spoofs Ever Die?

Variety reports that Screen Gems, subsidiary for Sony Pictures Entertainment, has locked up next year’s annual fun-filled spoof. It’s called Armageddagain: The Day Before Tomorrow.

Brilliant.

Now we’ve seen teen spoofs, scary movie spoofs, epic spoofs, Hitchcock spoofs, airplane spoofs, Bond spoofs, Star Trek spoofs, penguin spoofs,Top Gun spoofs, western spoofs, grindhouse spoofs, ‘hood movie spoofs, Robin Hood spoofs, Star Wars spoofs, monster movie spoofs, martial arts spoofs and Next. But Sony is certain there is still stuff left to parody:

Sony’s budget label picked up North American rights to the pic, which sends up disaster pics ranging from “Armageddon” and “Independence Day” to “Transformers” and “The Bourne Ultimatum.”

Actor Noah Emmerich (Beautiful Girls,The Truman Show) – who is in no way related to Day After Tomorrow director Roland Emmerich – will produce the film. In case you were wondering, The Day After Tomorrow was intended to be a serious effort.

I treat most spoofs like dogs that crap on my lawn. Yeah, sometimes they’re big turds and painfully unfunny. But as long as I don’t step into one … no harm, no foul. They’re harmless. There’s about a 90% chance I don’t see this movie, but I’ve been known to step in poop before.
