Box-Office Wrap-Up: Apr. 6 – Apr. 8

I got absolutely MURDERED this weekend by buying into the internet hype. I originally had Grindhouse fourth and then I looked at the other projections and figured I was high. So I gave it a small victory. The lesson: trust to your first instinct. Unless you’re afraid.
#1 movie predicted correctly: Zero Weeks In A Row
I was pretty close on the dollar amount here. It was the underperformance of that damn three hour one that got me. Anyway, I’ve heard from a number of people who agree here, Blades isn’t horrible, it’s not great, it’s somewhere in between. I hope that makes the DVD cover!
Result: $23.0 million (My rank: #3, $2.5m off)
Robinsons is now a shoe-in to make $100m which is justice at its finest. I do have to wonder where the phrase “shoe-in” came from though. Shoe-in what?
Result: $17.0 million (My rank: #4, $1.6m off)
Does this mean America is wising up? Or did people see it on Wednesday and Thursday? I don’t know, but I’m happy about the mediocre result here. If B-Luv gives it an F than I’m supportive.
Result: $15.0 million (My rank: #2, $6.6m off)
Now I really hate this film. It did $5m, then $4m, and they have it projected at $2.5m today. I guess Easter weekend wasn’t the best time for a hard R to be released eh?
Result: $11.5 million (My rank: #1, $10.6m off)
Hey, I had this in the right slot! Go figure. I promise you it wasn’t on purpose, pure luck out of a stinky Oracle weekend.
Result: $10.0 million (My rank: #5, $1.7m off)
6. 300
I don’t think I’ve predicted enough money for 300 yet. I continue to disrespect the Spartans. I hope they don’t murder me.
Result: $8.8 million (My rank: #7, $2.7m off)
Rumored casting news: Clint Eastwood will star and direct in Wild Hogs 2. You heard it here first, we got scoops!
Result: $6.8 million (My rank: #9, $2.2m off)
Let’s look at the bright side, I didn’t have any films in the top ten that weren’t in the top ten. So really I’m ten for ten. Also I can fly and walk through walls. As long as I’m going for delusional…
Result: $5.8 million (My rank: #10, $1.7m off)
9. TMNT
With $46m in box office on a budget of $34 it’s safe to this should eek out a tiny little profit. Here’s hoping it’s not enough profit for a second version. Unless that version is hardcore like Batman Begins.
Result: $4.9 million (My rank: #8, $.2m off)
Welcome to the Laremy Lounge. Pull up a seat. How excited are you for The Bourne Ultimatum? The correct answer is very. I’d pay $35 dollars to see that right now.
Result: $4.0 million (My rank: #6, $5.7m off)
