#1 movie predicted correctly: Six Weeks in a row
1. TMNT
This will mark my seventh week in a row after some crappy Oracling. The 90 minute run time is going to allow theaters to jam showings throughout the day. The PG rating is going to allow parents to pack the screenings. There is no financial downside to this project. The fact that it’s not a great movie won’t hamper it in the slightest.
Estimate: $30.2 million
2. Shooter
I can’t think of one reason to see this. It looks so incredibly average. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t do this number and slides down the board, I’m just having a hard time discounting the theater count and Mark Wahlberg presence.
Estimate: $16.1 million
3. 300
You had a hell of a run 300 and that $150m you’ll stand at after this weekend means Frank Miller will get his next idea greenlit without even a pitch or story in place. They’ll just hand him a giant check and say “Go make us money.” That’s a nice place to be in.
Estimate: $15.8 million
The first one didn’t do all that well financially so the budget must have been zero there. Why else would they make a sequel? I guess hills don’t cost that much.
Estimate: $13.1 million
5. Wild Hogs
I’m not sure if this and Shooter have the same audience or not. We’ll find out this weekend in the epic Macy vs. Walhberg showdown we’ve all been waiting for.
Estimate: $12.6 million
Why in the world would they release this against TMNT? That’s like standing on the train tracks for a weekend and hoping for the best. Not clever fellas.
Estimate: $12.5 million
7. Premonition
I get the feeling this will slip! Hardy har har. Did you know Sandra Bullock is three for four wins on People’s Choice Award nominations? Yep, she owns that show.
Estimate: $8.7 million
It’s Punch Drunk Love meets the World Trade Center! Now you see why they had such a crappy time marketing the best movie of the week. I implore you to see it but I’m guessing that won’t be enough.
Estimate: $7.4 million
9. Pride
“Hey Guys, let’s do Glory Road but with a sport no one cares about and no bankable stars!” Now you know why everyone thinks they can make it in Hollywood; plenty of idiotic ideas get support.
Estimate: $7.1 million
10. Dead Silence
I just burnt my hand making tea. Very frustrating. Everyone wave goodbye now to Dead Silence. $9m at the box office and never to be heard from again.
Estimate: $3.8 million
