With all the news around concerning Russell Crowe‘s bad attitude and his phone throwing incident I can’t imagine the actors that will sign on to star in a film he is directing, but he is going to have to find them now as Crowe is set to direct Bra Boys for Universal and Imagine Entertainment.
The film is a fact-based drama about a counterculture movement in a surf community in Australia. The picture will be based on the “Bra Boys” documentary that focuses on Sunny, Koby and Jai Abberton, three brothers who began the underground surfer movement in the inner-Sydney seaside suburb of Maroubra. Crowe narrated the documentary which addresses the triumphs of the large, rough-and-tumble group, as well as their social struggles.
Stuart Beattie will pen the screenplay. Beattie also recently signed on to pen the “Gears of War” videogame adaptation for New Line.
There is no word on whether or not Crowe will take a role or just stay behind the camera for Bra Boys. He will next be seen in 3:10 to Yuma and American Gangster opposite Denzel Washington.
