A month in the happy house but I have underestimated biker movies all month. The good news is 300 is out next week and I promise to overestimate that one.
#1 movie predicted correctly: Four Weeks In A Row
1. Wild Hogs
Yikes! Talk about demand, this thing was like a stock where they illegally leaked the quarterly earnings. That’s right, The Oracle knows investments.
Result: $38.0 million (My rank: #1, $13.4m off)
2. Zodiac
This has received really positive reviews, to the point where our own B-Luv’s looks a little tame. The only problem is all of the reviews include words like “smart, thoughtful, and clever.” That’s not what people want. They want bikes.
Result: $13.1 million (My rank: #2, $3.2m off)
3. Ghost Rider
One thing that just struck me, he’s not a ghost at all. He was a ghost in the original comic (I think) but now he’s just a guy who transforms into something else. So he’s a transformer rider. How about a little more truth in marketing guys?
Result: $11.5 million (My rank: #3, $1.9m off)
I’m four for four on the placement. Dollars aren’t too bad either, at least not after that first butcher job.
Result: $8.6 million (My rank: #4, $1.2m off)
On to another movie about numbers, 1408, is anyone really afraid of the number 13? If so that seems even sillier than being obsessed with the number 23. The only number I fear is my weight.
Result: $7.1 million (My rank: #5, $.2m off)
6. Norbit
Norbit breaks my streak, Norbit always breaks my streak. This is because, even more than Ghost Rider, it is a demon from hell sent to test my patience.
Result: $6.4 million (My rank: #7, $1.3m off)
I keep telling people to see this and they keep scoffing. It’s funny, it’s romantical… what’s not to enjoy? You’ve only got another few days until “real” movie season starts so give it a whirl.
Result: $4.9 million (My rank: #9, $1.2m off)
What were they thinking? It’s a sexual movie that’s basically about cleansing someone of sexuality. They had a big marketing budget without any theatres. It was like a “how to” on how to sink a film.
Result: $4.0 million (My rank: #6, $2.1m off)
It will be a long time before we see another film with a ! followed by a : won’t it? I would say it could be forever in fact. So we should all soak in this moment.
Result: $3.8 million (My rank: #8, $.8m off)
10. Breach
Hmmm. This one had good reviews too, just like Zodiac. And yet it was not good. The difference for Zodiac is probably David Fincher who has made three legit movies. Billy Ray has only directed one other movie total, Shattered Glass, and he’s also written some bombs. I guess this was just a long way of saying I still don’t like Breach. See ya Thursday.
Result: $3.5 million (My rank: #10, $.4m off))
