Girl You Know It’s True!

Good lord, who wants to watch this? Apparently Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to make a feature film based on the lipsynching fools Milli Vanilli.

Jeff Nathanson, writer/director of 2004’s The Last Shot, which was so bad it made $464, 275 in the theaters and was never heard from again, is set to script and direct the film for Uni. Of course, Nathanson was the writer behind Catch Me if You Can, which was about a check forger so why wouldn’t he be able to turn in some good work about a singing group forgery? However, this is a far different story and one that was covered so widely when Milli and the Vanilli duped the world in a rise to the top of the pop charts only to be revealed as frauds.

The interesting story actually comes after their public demise and the group tried going at it with their own voices and failed and then Rob Pilatus, half of Milli Vanilli, died in 1998 due to a dangerous combination of alcohol and pills.

Nathanson secured rights to the duo’s story from the estate of Pilatus and his surviving group member Fabrice Morvan. The two had a Grammy Award rescinded, class action lawsuits filed against them and were obviously dropped from Arista Records. It is certainly a sad story, so below I have added some “In Living Color” fun to liven up the mood.
