Hollywood is an odd world and a cruel one at that as Joss Whedon has revealed on his blog that he is officially off the Wonder Woman project in all capacities, writing and directing.
Only days ago it was announced that Warner Bros. had just picked up a new script from virgin writers Matthew Jennison and Brent Strickland and it was said that they were just picking up the script to ensure there was no competition from other studios. Well, it seems that might not be all there was to it even though producer Joel Silver says he didn’t plan on going the period route as the Jennison/Strickland script proposes.
On Whedon’s blog he says, “You (hopefully) heard it here first: I’m no longer slated to make Wonder Woman.” He then breaks it down quite simply, “I had a take on the film that, well, nobody liked.” Doesn’t get anymore blunt than that, interesting thing will be once this film actually does get made and if Joss makes his version of the film available in script form online.
Joss is extremely professional in his report and basically breaks it down as he and the studio didn’t see eye-to-eye on the project and decided to part ways, very cool on his part. He also goes into the other film he has been working on and says that he “can finally finish polishing, and plenty of other things in the hopper.” That film of course is Goners over at Universal Pictures, which is described as the story of a young woman’s journey that involves a great deal of horror and some heroics. Yeah, not a lot to go with, but I give you what I got.
The best part is when he says, “I never have to answer THAT question again!!!!” THAT question of course being “Who is going to play Wonder Woman.” He then says, “And you don’t have to link to every rumor site!” God bless you man, rumors kill online “journalism” and make us all look like clowns. How about the latest one regarding the Katie Holmes replacement and the last one being that J.J. Abrams was off of Star Trek XI?
My best goes out to Joss, I loved Serenity and I can’t wait to see what is next.
