Ryan Gosling isn’t wasting any time broadening his horizons as he goes from Oscar-nominated actor from Half Nelson to a directorial debut on the feature film The Lord’s Resistance Army.
The picture is about child soldiers in Africa and will star nonpros and child soldiers, whom Gosling has helped find in East Africa.
Gosling is writing the script and has nearly raised all the necessary financing for the project. Oustide of upcoming roles in Fracture and Lars and the Real Girl Gosling isn’t entertaining any studio offers as an insider tells Variety, “He’s going to make this a priority before anything else.”
While the war in Iraq seems to dominate headlines, child soldiers in Africa are quickly becoming a media hot button and while Warner Bros. Pictures’ Blood Diamond touched on the topic hopefully this flick will make a larger impact with those that have the means to really help.
