This comes as no surprise, but at least there are more details this time as Variety has the word that Jackie Chan and Jet Li are indeed set to star in a feature film together with Robert Minkoff directing.
Filming is set to begin in April on what is being referred to as “the untitled J&J project” and is being described as a family pic. John Fusco’s script is based on the legend of the monkey king and his quest to achieve immortality. Li is set to play two roles, that of the monkey king and the silent monk. Chan will play the monk T’sa-Ho. Yuen Woo-Ping is set to create the action sequences.
Talks are already under way between Relativity and U.S. distribs.
On a side note, not at all relating to the story, the same article goes on to say that the Brian De Palma Untouchables prequel, The Untouchables: Capone Rising, is set to start shooting in June. The film charts Chicago mob boss Al Capone’s rise to power and his relationship with police detective and nemesis Jimmy Malone. Brian Koppelman and David Levien penned the script.
