Box-Office Wrap-Up: Oct. 27 – Oct. 29

I played it safe and I’m not the slightest bit sorry. I got nailed by showing The Grudge 2 some respect and I wasn’t going down that route again. I knew Saw III was going to win so I just mailed that number in; I knew I’d be the only genius on the block if it would have struggled a little.
#1 movie predicted correctly: One Week In A Row
I admit it, I was gun-shy. You would be too if Flicka had just owned you. You don’t want a horse owning you. Not even a little.
Result: $34.3 million (My rank: #1, $9.0m off)
I predicted a close race but I picked the wrong jalopy. This is the dirty side of oracling, when all your friends abandon you.
Result: $9.8 million (My rank: #3, $.7m off)
Off by a paltry $200k or a little over two percent. Why hasn’t a studio hired me yet? Is it the felony record?
Result: $9.6 million (My rank: #2, $.2m off)
Man, except for that massive dollar miss on Saw III I am rolling. Picture me rolling! Tupac said it best.
Result: $6.3 million (My rank: #4, $.4m off)
Uh-oh. I had that bad movie about a bad childhood in this slot. Not good. My only solace is that I haven’t been officially fired from being an Oracle yet. There goes that studio job.
Result: $6.1 million (My rank: #6, $1.0m off)
Okay, so I’m pretty much going to be one ranking and one million dollars off from here on out. Got it. No problem.
Result: $4.9 million (My rank: #7, $1.0m off)
I made that last quip as a joke but now it’s getting eerie. Three in a row, one slot, one million. I need a new abacus!
Result: $4.7 million (My rank: #8, $1.0m off)
Much better. Two slots off. You have to admire the plucky spirit of The Grudge 2 for hanging in there against a top ranked horror. Or maybe people just couldn’t get tickets to Saw III.
Result: $3.3 million (My rank: #10, $.6m off)
I saw this and liked it. Man, I wish Brad wasn’t hogging all the good movie reviews. I’m getting stuck seeing the Babel‘s of the world.
Result: $2.8 million (My rank: #9, $.4m off)
I think this is still set up perfectly for a Bening Oscar nomination because Oscar loves films that make nothing at the box. Truly loves them, cuddles up with them and tells the American public to cram it. I’m with the public though, it’s not worthy of a Bening nom. See you Thursday little ducks.
Result: $2.5 million (My rank: #5, $2.7m off)
