LA Daily News scored a few words with director Jon Turteltaub and he revealed his plans for the upcoming sequel to 2004’s smash hit National Treasure, a film which managed $173 million at the domestic box-office and over $347 million worldwide.
“We are just about to start preproduction,” Turteltaub said. “We’ll have Nic [Cage], Justin Bartha, Diane Kruger, Jon Voight and Harvey Keitel … Everyone’s back except anyone who’s in jail or died.”
Last June the sequel was confirmed as a go, but this is the first we have heard of it since. Even back then the synopsis was being kept under wraps and today all we get from the director is word that the film will take our intrepid adventurers to “exciting destinations within America as well as around the world. As we were shooting the first one, it kept changing, so I’m scared to commit to anything, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Mount Rushmore made an appearance.”
