It was one hell of a hectic day here at Comic-Con and while the morning offered some of the coolest stuff I had seen so far with Warner Bros.’s 300 and The Weinstein Co.’s Grindhouse, but the afternoon was dominated by Spider-Man, actually more appropriately… Venom.
Yup, Venom was officially revealed as the second villain along with Sandman in Spider-Man 3 and on top of the announcement footage from the film was shown and Venom was given a face. ComingSoon.net brings us the first description of the scene. Here is a snippet:
then the next scene shows Topher Grace as Eddie Brock walking through a church with a voice over of him asking someone “to do one thing for me. I want you to kill Peter Parker.”
The footage ended with Topher’s Eddie Brock feeling something black and gooey hit his hand–obviously the symbiote–and it cuts to the very first image of the computerized Venom, who looks exactly like he does in the comic book if rendered in 3D, looking straight into the camera with his jaws wide open and drooling. If you’re a fan of Venom, you’re not likely to be disappointed.
Ahhhh… nice eh? Well, Sony is quite proud of the reveal and has even unleashed two brand new wallpapers on the official Spider-Man 3 site and you can check those out by clicking on any of the two smaller images of each below.
Look for more on Spider-Man 3 over the course of the next 24 hours as I had a chance to sit down with director Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire (Peter Parker/Spider-Man), Kirsten Dunst (Mary Jane), Topher Grace (Venom), Bryce Dallas Howard (Gwen Stacey) and Thomas Haden Church (Sandman).
