It was only five days ago that The Boston Herald posted an article saying that Gwyneth Paltrow was interested in the psycho bride in the Farrelly brothers’ remake of the old Charles Grodin-Cybill Shepherd romantic comedy The Heartbreak Kid, this time around titled Seven Day Itch. The same article also said the brothers were courting Michelle Monaghan for a part in the flick. It looks like they got one right.
Today Variety announced that Malin Akerman had been cast in Seven Day Itch as the bride from hell opposite Ben Stiller who plays a man who hastily marries a young woman he thinks is his perfect mate (Akerman). As he watches her turn into a nightmare on their honeymoon, he meets another woman who might be his real soulmate (Monaghan).
Akerman is a newcomer who is probably best known for her role in the Lisa Kudrow HBO series “The Comeback.” She also has a small part in the upcoming Warner Bros. film The Visiting
The Farrellys wrote the script, inspired by Neil Simon’s original.
Oddly enough, it was reported over a year ago that Jason Bateman and Amy Poehler were going to star in a remake of The Heartbreak Kid for DreamWorks and director James Bobin. Since word on that one has been nil I can only assume the idea was scrapped.
