Is There Any Hope for ‘Casino Royale’?

I listed Casino Royale, the 21st film in the James Bond franchise, as one of my most anticipated movies of 2006, but the way things seem to be shaping up I have no idea if I am going to be as enthused once it hits theatres.

In an article over at The Hollywood Reporter they confirmed that principal photography had begun in Prague on Friday, but the cast is yet to include two principals! They still have not cast the role of the villain or the hottie (a.k.a. Bond Girl). There were rumors floating around recently that Rachel McAdams and Thandie Newton were the frontrunners to play Vesper Lynd, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

Considering this film is getting underway without two of the leads makes me believe they are close to signing a deal and have full confidence in the script, but it is a bit worrisome considering so many names seemed to have declined the role. Names such as Charlize Theron, Angelina Jolie and Scarlett Johansson. Granted that doesn’t mean anything, but it does make you think.

Casino Royale is set to open November 17.
