Carnahan’s Smokin’ Cast Gains a Garcia

Besides Ben Affleck, this movie is looking like it may be a good one as Andy Garcia is joining Jeremy Piven, Ryan Reynolds, Alicia Keys and Ben Affleck in Joe Carnahan‘s Smokin’ Aces for Universal Pictures.

The film will feature Reynolds playing an FBI agent supervising a manhunt for a standup comedian (Piven) who has decided to squeal on the mob. Before he heads off into protective custody, the comic goes for one last hurrah in the casinos at Tahoe, drawing a crowd of assassins. Garcia will play the FBI director who tries to keep the cocky entertainer around long enough to testify.

Keys would be making her feature film debut as an assassin.

Garcia recently finished his directorial projecct The Lost City for Lions Gate, which he will be screening on Saturday for Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and his wife Columba as part of the state’s Hispanic heritage celebration.

Lost City is a love story set in the backdrop of 1950s Havana, Cuba, during the 50’s, a club owner is caught in the turbulent transition from the oppressive regime of Batista to the Marxist government of Fidel Castro. Castro’s regime ultimately leads the club owner to flee to New York.

The film stars Robert Duvall, Andy Garcia, Benjamin Bratt, Dustin Hoffman and Bill Murray.
