No Oscar for Stunt Performers

Personally, I think an award for stunt performers in movies would be an excellent category to add to the Oscars. It wouldn’t take the show over the top like the MTV Movie Awards and it would give an opportunity to award the men and women that make the actors look superhuman in the movies, but the effort is to no avail.

On Tuesday night, the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voted night not to grant the request of a consortium of stunt performers’ organizations for an annual Academy Award category in their field.

“At a time when the Academy is trying to find ways to reduce the numbers of statuettes given out, and looks at categories with an eye more focused on reduction than addition,” said Academy President Frank Pierson, “the Board is simply not prepared to institute any new annual awards categories.”

The last time a new category was voted by the Board was in 2000, when the Best Animated Feature Film Award was created.

This seems like a load of crap! If they don’t want to give the award out during the televised event they don’t have to. If they think giving out too many awards cheapens the actual award then get over your ego. Whatever the reason there are certain people in film that deserve to be recognized outside of their little circles and I think this is an excellent category to create.

If they are so worried about giving out too many awards then why don’t they take back Halle Berry‘s from the 2002 Oscars for her “performance” in Monster’s Ball, if you can call it that.

How good would Kill Bill‘s action scenes been without Zoë Bell? Check out the pic of her below and also realize she was a stunt double for Sharon Stone on Catwoman and Lucy Lawless on “Xena: Warrior Princess.”
