Sommers Attached to Brooks’ ‘Magic Kingdom’

The man behind numerous fantastical stories, Terry Brooks, is finally seeing his “Magic Kingdom” series getting the big screen treatment.

Universal Pictures has acquired the right to the series of books and has attached Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel to adapt the first book, “Magic Kingdom for Sale.”

Already Stephen Sommers has been attached to direct the first installment, which revolves around a recently widowed attorney who, still grieving for his wife, leaves his old life behind when he responds to a mysterious ad and spends his fortune to purchase a magical kingdom. With his reluctant teenage children, he must unite the kingdom’s denizens and creatures to stop an evil demon bent on destroying the realm.

The “Magic Kingdom” series already has five volumes, with a sixth to be published in 2006.
