‘Decameron’ May be next for Barton

Mischa Barton, the sexy star of Fox’s hit television show The O.C. is currently readying herself for the dark indie film The OH in Ohio, not to be confused with the long-winded DreamWorks title The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio.

Now it seems as if another role is beckoning the actress as Dino De Laurentiis’ adaptation of Giovanni Boccaccio’s 14th century literary classic, The Decameron, is on its way to a big screen feature film.

Barton would play Pampinea in the period piece about a group of young Florentines who take refuge in the Italian countryside, amusing one another with stories of love and adventure, as the black plague devastates the city.

Apparently De Laurentiis, along with his wife and partner, Martha, have a new vision for the film, which will include costumes from Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli as the film is expected to shoot next year in Florence and Rome.

As far as adapting the book goes, David Leland, one of the co-writers of the 1986 Oscar-winning film Mona Lisa is up for the job as well as directorial duties.
