Patrick Dempsey will star in the upcoming third “Bridget Jones” film
Deadline reports that Patrick Dempsey (“Grey’s Anatomy”) is in final negotiations to take on a role in the upcoming feature film, Bridget Jones’s Baby.
Working Title will produce the film, which sees Renee Zellweger reprising the title role along with Colin Firth as love interest Mark Darcy. The pair previously appeared in both of the preceding films, Bridget Jones’s Diary in 2001 and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason in 2003. Combined, the two films have grossed over $540 million at the global box office.
Sharon Maguire, who directed the original Bridget Jones’s Diary in 2001, will return to direct the feature film from a script she co-wrote with David Nicholls (One Day). Plot details are being kept under wraps, but as you have probably guessed, Bridget Jones will indeed have a baby in the third film of the series. The question remains, however, if the father of the child will be Firth’s Darcy, Dempsey’s new character, or perhaps a third party. Hugh Grant, who appeared in the previous two films, will not reprise his role for “Baby.”
Though no release date has been set, Universal will distribute the film which begins principal photography in a few weeks.
