Described as an origin story in the vein of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, this new take on the folk hero find’s Robin Hood returning from The Crusades to discover a Sherwood Forest rife with corruption and evil. Teaming with a band of outlaws, he takes matters into his own hands to set things right, with very little merry-making along the way.
The gritty script for Robin Hood: Origins hails from Joby Harold, who recently penned Guy Ritchie’s revisionist take on Camelot titled Knights of the Roundtable. The film will be produced by Appian Way’s Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson along with Harold and Tory Tunnell’s Safe House Prods.
Lionsgate has good reason to put this project on the fast track, as Disney has their own Pirates of the Caribbean-esque take on the legend titled Nottingham & Hood, Sony is developing an entire Robin Hood shared universe and Warner Bros. has their long-gestating futuristic urban version titled Hood, which has circled the likes of The Wachowskis and Will Smith.
